SNAPSHOTS OF MELBOURNE

Whenever I have the opportunity to travel I will always take my sketchbook, sometimes my MacBook and (this time) even my Wacom tablet. Having returned from a month in one of my favourite cities on earth, I have a folio full of pencil drawings and colour illustrations as a visual journal of my time there.

“I THINK BETTER WITH PENCIL ON PAPER”

Drawing, pencil on paper, is the foundation of everything I do. I think better with pencil on paper, I construct better shapes and depict a sight better with a pencil. I carry a sketchbook everywhere (and a pencil, sharpener and, yes, a circle template!), and I have no qualms about sitting in public and drawing what I see, people and places. It took some time, but it’s now a huge part of me as a professional illustrator and as a human.

“turn up the bass on real world colours”

My work is far more colourful than me; I’m usually found wearing my black sweater, quiet, headphones on, my illustration work is all the vibrancy I need to be in the world! I love to take colours from reality, and twist them, turn up the bass on real world colours. Apply a graphic shape where nature may have provided something complex, make every place exciting, most places really are anyway if you look for it. Everywhere has it’s moment.

“tHE ONLY PROBLEM WITH ILLUSTRATION…”

I love being an illustrator, it’s literally ‘the best’, but, the only problem with illustration is that it doesn’t come with sound, it’s all just silent images, so here you go, my selection of illustrations, with sound!
