Here Comes the Weekend

In the Summer of 2024, my sketchbook and I were invited to Tim Peaks (one of many stages at Kendal Calling Music Festival, in the Lake District, UK) to join the team and document the long weekend of music and more.

Tim Peaks isn’t like any other festival stage, founded by my frequent creative collaborator Tim Burgess (solo artist and frontman of The Charlatans), Tim Peaks is a diner in the woods providing coffee, pizzas and (of course) the best music, to Kendal Calling’s festival goers.

Throughout the weekend there were surprise live sets and DJ sessions, radio shows and TV crews, interviews, games and fancy dress; solos, duets, bands and orchestras!

How did you get here?

My prime task of the weekend was to draw EVERYTHING. From dawn til’ dusk I was around Tim Peaks with my sketchbook in hand and a pocketful of pencils; drawing the performers and their crews, crowds and queues, equipment, instruments, cups and saucers, margheritas, americanos, banjos, beats, bass and brews!

*Actually, I don’t think there were any banjos.

ALL Night Party

Once the sun had set and the headliners had headlined, I would get back to my design studio (tent) and catalog the day’s work, scan and clean-up my drawings, share as much as possible on my socials and if the batteries were good enough (personally, and in my MacBook), I’d create colour artwork from my pencil drawings! After the festival, I went on to create the full collection of colour artwork you can see here!

FAVOURITE WASTE OF TIME

With Tim Peaks being a family-friendly party all day long, we had to put something together for the younger folks*, and that’s why we’ve created The Tim Peaks Colouring Book! The only place you could possibly go wild with a packet of crayons, BBC 6Music’s Chris Hawkins and an inflatable octopus!

For more details, downloads and the gallery head over to the Tim Peaks Colouring Book page.

* Not just for young folks!

No endings but only the beginnings.

See you in 2025!
