TRAVEL AND TOURISM

Who doesn’t love a little road trip?! Or (when the planets align) somewhere further afield? (Not like planetary travel, I just mean when life does you a favour and you get to really travel). I know I do, and wherever I go my sketchbook and Macbook come with me. I’ve always enjoyed cataloging my own travels and illustrating commercially for others. Actually *fun fact* my first ever illustration commission was drawing yoga positions for an inflight magazine around 20 years ago! I love to depict landmarks and landscapes, airports and train stations, all the people and all the places.

Below you can take a trip through a selection of travel and tourism projects I have worked on. Of course, if you are in the industry and would like to discuss working together, then get in touch.

Great Western Railway

A series of short travel films featuring me and my sketchbook working my way around Great Western Railway’s network from London to Oxford, Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, and finishing down in Exeter!

Private Commissions

I’ve always enjoyed private commissions, hearing from someone who enjoys my work enough to want it hanging in their home. These artworks are from a series documenting the travels of a family, the places they’ve lived and loved.

Atlantic Books

I worked alongside designer Mark Ecob on the cover design for John Kampfner’s book ‘In Search of Berlin’. As you can see I illustrated a collection of Berlin landscapes and notable architecture old and new for the book cover and marketing. Check out the book on Atlantic Books.

redactive media

A set of city ‘spotlights’ for FM World, the facilities management magazine, published by Redactive Media.

People Who Travel

A series of illustrations of real people on their travels, taken from submissions from social media followers.  I wanted to share the travellers' stories, whether it was a weekend at the beach or 12 months adventuring worldwide.  I'm interested in types of people and their reasons for travel, and how sharing these stories makes the world feel smaller and friendlier, more accessible and more welcoming.

Airbnb

I’ve always had a lot of love for Airbnb; the brand, the superhosts, the trips I’ve taken and the hours I’ve just spent browsing cool places to dream about. Here’s 4 of my favourite stays from around the UK.

Global Galleries

Three of my favourite galleries, well worth a visit to Bilbao, London or New York!

Falcon Jigsaws

The Bristol Harbourside scene was commissioned by Falcon Contemporary as a 1000 piece jigsaw (you can buy it here), and features a multitude of Bristolian references, including some special Twitter friends with connections to the city. I’m in there too.

Southern shift

I worked with Showpony to create a feature illustration for the South Australia Department of Trade and Industry's 'Southern Shift' campaign.  The illustration includes various landmarks and sights from across South Australia and serves to introduce business worldwide to the state.

Illustrated Maps

Any excuse to illustrate tiny versions of landmarks, the local dishes, activities, inner-city ski slopes and, of course, Bigfoot.

Snapshots of melbourne

A month in one of my favourite cities and my wife’s home-town, Melbourne.

Travelling Sketchbook

Firstly, thanks for reading this far! And to finish a handful of my favourite illustrations from my ‘Travelling Sketchbook’, my visual journal of travels of my own, from Oxford, UK to Queensland, Australia.
